Uganda’s new anti-homosexuality law bans identification as LGBTQ

Law could be the first to criminalise identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ)

Uganda’s parliament has passed sweeping antigay legislation that proposes tough new penalties for same-sex relationships and criminalises anyone identifying as LGBTQ.

While more than 30 African countries, including Uganda, already ban same-sex relationships, the new law passed on Tuesday appears to be the first to outlaw merely identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ), Human Rights Watch said.

“The ayes have it,” Parliamentary Speaker Anita Annet Among said after the final vote, adding that the “bill passed in record time”.

Legislators amended significant portions of the original draft law, with all but one speaking against the bill. Supporters of the tough legislation say it is needed to punish a broader array of LGBTQ activities, which they say threaten traditional values in the conservative and religious East African nation.

The legislation will now be sent to President Yoweri Museveni to be signed into law

“Criminalization of consensual same-sex conduct contributes to a climate in which violence and discrimination against LGBT people is widespread,” the organisation said.

“Ugandan politicians should focus on passing laws that protect vulnerable minorities and affirm fundamental rights and stop targeting LGBT people for political capital,” said Oryem Nyeko

Western Cape officers allegedly charging for police escorts

Citizens in the Western Cape have now to pay a fee for public police escort.Who on earth is supposed to pay for his/ her public safety as the rights to public is enshrined in the Constitution, enacted in 1996, aim to ensure safety by protecting citizens who come into contact with the law, and by obliging the state to provide adequate security from those who perpetrate crime.

Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Reagan Allen says no resident of the province should ever have to pay for the services of the SAPS.

This follows an incident that involved the Samora Machel and Langa police stations who notified members of the public they had to pay R75 for police escorts.

Allen says the mandate of SAPS is clear and it does not include communities paying for police services."I can confirm that the fee has been cancelled," said Allen.

The party also said their members were stopped from entering the Richards Bay CBD in numbers due to road closures leading to the city, and questioned the harsh actions of private security members.

“At 6am, they shot people from the EFF. If we put tyres on the road, we are fighting government, we are not fighting any businesses. We are not looting. I am a custodian of preventing comrades from looting. “We are not looting at all.

South Africa to enjoy another night of no load-shedding, Eskom confirms

South Africans will enjoy another night of no load-shedding, with Eskom confirming it will remain suspended until Wednesday morning 22 March.

The power utility, in a brief post shared on social media, initially announced there would be no load-shedding until Tuesday at 4pm due to a “significantly lower than anticipated demand for electricity”. Stage 2 will then kick in.

On Tuesday afternoon however, the utility said: “Due to slight improvement in generation capacity and lower demand load-shedding will remain suspended until 5am on Wednesday.

“Stage 2 load-shedding will then be implemented [until 4pm]. Stage 3 load-shedding will then be implemented at 4pm on Wednesday until 5am on Thursday.”

Eskom last week announced there had been notable gradual improvements in its power generation fleet. According to the power utility, over the past week six coal-fired power stations achieved an energy availability factor (EAF) of 70%, a milestone it says was last achieved on May 8 last year.

Celebrating Human rights Day

Human rights are rights that everyone should have simply because they are human. In 1948, the United Nations defined 30 articles of human rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It established universal human rights on the basis of humanity, freedom, justice, and peace.

Human Rights Day in South Africa is historically linked with 21 March 1960, and the events of Sharpeville. On that day 69 people died and 180 were wounded when police fired on a peaceful crowd that had gathered in protest against the Pass laws. This day marked an affirmation by ordinary people, rising in unison to proclaim their rights. It became an iconic date in our country’s history that today we commemorate as Human Rights Day as a reminder of our rights and the cost paid for our treasured human rights.

When South Africa held its first democratic election, with Nelson Mandela elected as its first democratic President, 21 March, Human Rights Day was officially proclaimed a public holiday.

On Human Rights Day, South Africans are asked to reflect on their rights, to protect their rights and the rights of all people from violation, irrespective of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, whether they are foreign national or not – human rights apply to everyone, equally.

We must remain vigilant and report abuse and cruelty, such as human trafficking, child labour, forced labour and violence against women, children, and the aged and other vulnerable groupings of people.

HAPPY HUMAN RIGHTS DAY EVERYONE!! ❤️

TOGETHER WE SHALL STAND UNITED

What is political system in Africa?

In political science, a political system means the type of political organization that can be recognized, observed or otherwise declared by a state.

It defines the process for making official government decisions. It usually comprizes the governmental legal and economic system, social and cultural system, and other state and government specific systems. However, this is a very simplified view of a much more complex system of categories involving the questions of who should have authority and what the government influence on its people and economy should be.

" Our political system is almost got nothing to do with the politicians and almost everything to do with the wealthy elite and mostly their progeny others descendants who normally don't know what it takes to build everything "

Another day Erling Haaland hat- trick, as Manchester City swept Burnley. aside to reach  the FA cup semi

Manchester City beat Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-finals, welcoming Clarets boss Vincent Kompany back to the Etihad Stadium for the first time as an opposition manager.

City welcomed Vincent Kompany back to the club, as he brought his Burnley side who are flying high in the second tier by 6 goals into nill. Pep Guardiola had called Kompany a future City manager in the build-up, although the Belgian distanced himself from the role as he insisted he was focused on his job at Turf Moor.

Erling Haaland has spent the last twomatches scoring goals at the rate of one every 15 minutes and 45 seconds. Right now, he’s unstoppable, and he saunters off once again with the match ball tucked under his arm. And here’s another fine stat courtesy of the BBC: Haaland is the first player to score hat-tricks in the top flight, the FA Cup and the European Cup / Champions League in the same season since Liverpool’s John Wark in 1984-85.

Gambling awareness Month : March

"There are many harsh lessons to be learned from the gambling experience, but the harshest one of all is the difference between having fun and being smart."

Here are some of the gambling quotes:

"Quit while you're ahead."

“Hoping to recoup is what ruins the gambler.”

“Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.”

“I've learned the lesson that the worst thing that can happen to a gambler is to let his recent losses or wins knock him off keel emotionally.”

"Gambling is not about how well you play the games, it’s really about how well you handle your money.”

"Once you start thinking you have nothing left to learn, you have everything to learn
Nobody has ever bet enough on a winning horse.”

"Hold’em is to stud what chess is to checkers.”

Eskom and loadshedding

load shedding has dramatically changed the way people work, live and play

The way we live,Solar panels have become a common sight on rooftops in many neighbourhoods as homeowners look for ways to keep the lights on, and save on electricity costs.and the .Rising energy costs and changing regulations that make it possible to privatise energy supply will encourage more residents to include sustainable features into the home for some means to save power.

The way we play,Without electricity to power the electronics that keep us entertained at home, many people have reverted to more traditional games and activities to pass the time. Card games, like Cards Against Humanity, Codenames and good old Uno, are great fun, and add some competitive spice to a virtual night in with family or friends.

With the fact given that Eskom has relentlessly stunted the South African economy. Eskom, being the sole electricity provider for South Africa has fallen behind. Demand has drastically exceeded supply and thus has caused economic growth to become stagnant. Although there are several advantages to the monopoly, they are heavily outweighed by the disadvantages. It has become clear that competition needs to be created in the electricity industry to increase supply and being the sole provider in the market, enjoying abnormal profits, having freedom to control prices, being protected by high entry barriers, and having no close substitutes.

Moreover small business suffer from load shedding in the following way, production and productivity loss, Wi-Fi  goes down , security issues, payment issues, cellphone networks going down, electronic damage, increase traffic issues and increased costs in Alternative.

Which which makes the lives of Africans hard That load-shedding has resulted in an increase in house burglaries during the power cuts, and there are also related security risks to the banking and the cash distribution industry and possibly sexual assaults, like rape could possibly student at different institutions are deeply suffering, they cannot study nor do assignment, send emails for submission purposes ,but that all can not happen due to cellphone networks going down ,and evens are around the corner which brings frustration to students.

Please find the attached video of loadshedding and the 20th march national shutdown.

EFF 20 March 2023 National Shutdown

The call by the EFF for a national shutdown on Monday,20 March 2023 to demand the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa and to protest against load shedding comes when South Africa is experiencing debilitating challenges. These include unemployment, an economic meltdown, general lawlessness and a lack of decisive leadership across the spectrum

This has raised concerns that Monday’s planned shutdown could lead to violence, destruction of property and loss of life, similar to the 2021 July unrest.

Picture: An illustration of what the national could be if it will result to acts of violence like the July 2021 unrest

I believe that this crisis cannot be resolved by using the proposed approach of a shutdown. Ours is to preserve the economy and protect the sustainability of businesses.

The threat of a national shutdown has the potential to encourage acts of violence and potential vandalism on property and businesses, which is unlawful.

Technically, it’s also a form of intimidation to the highest degree, and displaying an intention to commit violence and intimidation is a criminal offence. I firmly believe, if left unchecked and not acted upon by the government with urgency, it will send out the wrong message and give criminals the licence to loot, intimidate and destroy.

Social Inequality: Representation of race colour of network T.V

the lack of accurate and diverse representation in the media has an effect oh how we perceive people of color to be and how we interact with them as a hole. The massive amounts of negative media based around one race, particularly black people, has divided our society into a predator versus prey society.

the acts of discrimination based upon one's appearance, specifically race or ethnicity, suspecting them to have committed an offense.
the media tends to ignore the lives and ambitions of subordinate groups among them working class ,African American, guys overweight people and elder people.Even worse the content may create false images or stereotypes of those groups that become accepted as accurately portrayals of reality,  while under the impression that black people are all common criminals, and they are mainly featured in crime based dramas, and white people resort profiling that can lead to serous consequences for the innocent.

understanding how racism in the media creates a fearful and discriminatory society is beneficial in recognizing how media fuels racial profiling and increase internalized racism.

please find the attached video for a better view of the representation of Race and color.

Fashion Has embedded our popular culture : American content; celebrity influence

Fashion has infiltrated our popular culture, and the black style in which Africans used to dress, fertile and imaginative, is proliferating like an amoeba, splitting out into sub- genres. For decades, the global fashion industry has referenced African, but it has not been done so in the right way.

Take for instance, the majority of Africans did not dress for warmth, due to warm climates of the continent. Loin cloths or aprons were sufficient for men by the time, while women wore around their waist or breasts. This form of clothing were bark cloth, furs, skins and hides, and males simply wrapped the bark cloth that passes between the legs over a belt.

pictured: early indigenous people an ideal of  the  African used to wear.
( captured by: Naro bushan, central Kalahari, Botswana)

Then colonization enforced a massive change in daily wear in African cities. Today, people in urban areas are warming up to traditional garments outside of special occasions, sometimes they just wear it for fun and for causalities.in today’s world, fashion is a way of life. Like other basic needs (such as food, water, and shelter), clothing is also one of the most essential elements of life. People remain concerned about their dresses. Their occasions decide the type of dress, as every occasion has a defined fashion style, such as: office wear, party wear, casual wear, festival wear, marriage wear, etc. In addition to this, if people follow fashion trends, they are noticed by their friends, colleagues, relatives, and even by strangers. Likewise, fashion trends do play a major role in human life.

celebrities are the major influence to fashion by wearing whatever is i style at the time but they also create trends for themselves. Some celebrities are known to having better knowledge with fashion than other celebrities, we sometimes look to them as fashion icons. Celebrities can set the rule of how to dress to a certain event or how to dress at a  certain age. People tend to dress a certain way because their favorite celebrity that they stalk on social media is wearing the same thing.'

have a look at the following celebrities that influenced the lives of their followers in terms of fashion.

pictured: a fan of  an American rapper and songwriter Cardi B dressed liker her in one of Cardi B costume " I like it"

pictured: Chris Brown's fan dressed, and hold a doll just like him with the theme that say " if you don't have a baby, just grab a doll and you can be Chris Brown and Royalty."

pictured :  Beyonce's fan dressed up as Beyonce  halloween 2012

I think that this influence of celebrities on fashion has forced a global  shift in our approach to fashion in terms of sustainability, shopping and as well as future possibilities. Although we are facing uncertain times, I believe that were somehow forced to look at that may be drawn toward it.The newly introduced fashion is ingrained in our DNA, and it might become impossible to go back to our root fashion. Fashion trends has become part of our everyday life.
