The students of the University of Zululand are living in a hole as it has become common for criminals to break to their rooms.
Some of these students were attacked by a group of gangs on Tuesday, 14 March 2023, evening armed with guns and robbed of everything they have. This incident happened in Dwalabahle, which is the outsourced external student resident place in KwaDlangezwa campus and there are reports that gunshots were fired.
Police officers arrived at the crime scene and unfortunately the group of gangs were already fled the scene. But they promise students that they will make sure that they find this criminals and arrest them. The University issued a statement stating that the University refutes the rumours that a student was fatally wounded at the accredited external residence, and it puts on record that the rumours circulating on social media is untrue.
The University hereby given the notice that all academic activities are suspended with immediate effect, so this will enable students that were affected by the events to be counseled and give the university the opportunity to investigate the matter.

It's so sad that the young souls who came seeking for a better future are facing such difficulties 💔Hopefully the university will be able to get to the bottom of this 🥺

ReplyDeleteYes the institution organised counselling for the victimised students, and put all the academic Activities on hold.
DeleteIt's so sad that students are being tortured in their residences , its disturb their academics the University should try harder to protect their students 😢
ReplyDeleteThe institution must tighten up the security 🥺💔
DeleteThis brutality will never stop until the executive of the institution take these matters seriously, even last year the student we exposed to these threats!
ReplyDeleteAnd again next year incidents similar to this will happen if they do not resolve this matter immediately
DeleteThis is really sad and traumatic for both students and their parents and it's mostly sad that it's not the first time the students were exposed to this.

DeleteMhh so much brutality
ReplyDeleteSo much brutality to un-armed students 😭who just came to gain knowledge
DeleteI firmly believe that Unizulu doesn’t do background check before outsourcing a student residence, they also lack accommodation for students. They should start handing out the accommodation allowances that NSFAS gives each student so we can stay at a safe place. It honestly doesn’t make any logic sense to me that you don’t have enough residences, yet you don’t want to pay out accommodation allowance, and tell us we should pay for ourselves. How am l supposed to pay when you don’t give those allowances? We don’t all come backgrounds where we can afford accommodation, we depend on the NSFAS allowance that then means l need to sacrifice my meal allowance for accommodation as transport allowance is not enough to rent in a safe place. I honestly feel like Unizulu is not prioritising their students safety cause if that was the case they would do background research and pay out the private accommodation allowance that NSFAS caters for students not living on campus residence as Unizulu does not have enough residences for students.
ReplyDeleteWe, parents of students studying and accomodated by UNIZULU are dusturbed by these news. We're fearing for the safety of the students studying there. I hope the university is doing something to mend the situation.
ReplyDeleteThese kind of news are traumatizing 🥺
